The FCA has today cleared a merger whereby Alma Media Plc has announced that it will purchase Talentum Plc by a public bid. Stage II proceedings on the merger began by the authority on 9 September 2009.
Alma Media publishes newspapers and Talentum publishes magazines in Finland, and both companies maintain websites and sell advertising space to them. Both companies also offer several other electronic and other services to their customers. With the merger, e.g. the financial newspaper Kauppalehti and financial magazines Talouselämä and Tekniikka & Talous, and the websites Monster.fi and Uratie.fi specializing in job advertising, will become part of the same group.
The FCA investigated the competitive impacts of the merger particularly as regards Alma Media’s newspaper Kauppalehti and Talentum’s magazine readers as well as the advertisers using the said publications. In addition, the FCA investigated the competitive impacts of the merger on job advertising.
The merger was approved as such without conditions, as the threshold for intervention was not exceeded based on the investigations.
A public version of the decision will be published on the FCA’s website in roughly two weeks.
